Helmets

Helmets reduce physical damage taken by a number equal to the physical resistance value of a worm helmet plus the wearer's agility bonus modifier when the wearer is capable of dodging an attack. This 'dodge modifier' normally ranges from +1 to +5, but wearing almost any kind of helmet makes it harder to dodge an attack, and it may be capped to a lower level than the wearer's dodge modifier is.

Helmets that cover the skull and the face halve the confusion duration of critical hits (rounding down). Helmets also halve the duration of stun effects (rounding down to a minimum of 1).

Note that helmets only protect against critical hits and armour only protects against normal hits. This, however, does not apply to enchants, which provide bonuses against all hits regardless of their placement.

Helmets also interfere spellcasting by concealing the identity and affecting the wearer's charisma bonus modifier which is used to cast many restorative spells. This 'cast modifier' normally ranges from +1 to +5, but wearing a helmet may cap it to a lower level than the wearer's cast modifier is.

When an attack causes more damage than the physical resistance of a helmet is, the helmet itself can be damaged and has to take a durability check to see if it can shrug off the damage, or be damaged (or broken if it was already damaged). Helmet durability check uses the following formula:
